Arsene Wenger played a pshychological warfare with Ashley Cole by keeping him out of the Premier League opener sending a message that they are open to transfer him to another team.
About a year ago, Ashley Cole backstabbed Arsenal by talking to Chelsea officials for a possible transfer without the knowledge of his club, though, the deal has not materialized but interest and negotiations between the two clubs have risen following the exclusion of Ashley from the lineup.
Does Arsenal Want to Keep Cole?
They are saying one thing but they are doing the opposite. They have setup a smoke screen to appease Ashley Cole by declaring their willingness to move him and by leaving him out of the team lineup, they are placing more weight on where they stand.
Arsenal did their homework by placing a tag price that would be unacceptable to Chelsea in the hopes that they could keep Ashley. Arsenal manager has this to say: If he doesn’t go, of course he is a great player. He has permission to go somewhere if he wants to do it, but if there is not an opportunity for him and the club, he will stay at the club.

What is the Real Deal?
Yeah right Arsene, your lineup is not as deep as other clubs, and Ashley may not be a superstar but he could boost your standings and help your bid this year, so stop the deception and get over whether you want Ashley to stay or not. Sure he backstabbed you before, but if you gain more by keeping him then do so and fast instead of dragging this whole circus like crazy.
Arsenal is reported to ask for £16.5 million is way too much for Chelsea and other clubs. The recent FIFA World Cup did not improved his stock value to gain favorable response on his tag price.
