Barcelona Clearly Won More than Real

FC Barcelona

Barcelona definitely becomes a more formidable team, both in short and long-term form, with the signing of Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta from Juventus than Real’s Cannavaro and Emerson arrival.

Cannavaro is still one of the best centre-back players in the world and would fill a big void in Real’s defensive formation while Emerson is a big help in the holding midfield that crushed after Makelele left the club, though it is arguable that Emerson is over hyped than what he can do for the team. The problem with Cannavaro is that he’s reaching the end of his career at 33-years-old while Emerson at 30 still has a few years left.

FC Barcelona on the other hand needs a RB and Thuram fits the bill who will be able to work with a strong CB’s in Puyol and Marquez. Zambrotta is the clincher among the four players who is only 29 years-old and plays both left and right backs excellently, a skill that is rare in football.

With Puyol, Marquez, Thuram and Zambrotta playing alongside each other, expect a thunderous season for FC Barcelona while Real will survive this season but not good enough to dominate. They are already a good team that could go all the way to the finals; the addition of these two players ensures their season.
