Owen Hargreaves of Bayern Munich fractured his left fibula during their game against Armenia Bielefeld and would be out for at least six weeks.
Owen is taking it lightly: I need to wear a plaster for three weeks, then we have to wait and see how the recovery goes. That’s the way it is in football, sometimes you are flying high and all of a sudden you are down again.
Owen Hargreaves is a dependable defensive midfielder which will be sorely missed by Bayern Munich against Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon against Champions League Group.
Not only in Bayern Munich is the midfielder going to be missed, but more so in England, where he plays a vital role in the formation of the squad who will be playing Croatia and Macedonia on Oct. 7 and 11 respectively. His progress and development in football has allowed Steven Gerrard to play his best on the right wing. In the absence of Owen Hargreaves, Steven Gerrard may play his position while Carrick takes care of the right wing which is less efficient compared to when Owen is around.
The only upsidem England is playing only Macedonia and Croatia which could afford them a little space in efficiency.
