US Needs Copa
Lando Donovan badly beaten in World Cup 2006 will suffer the same fate in 2010 if US does not realize the need to get their players out the door and compete with the best players in the world.
MLS is no training ground for any team who wants to make an impact in the World Cup, and their performance in Germany hurts any chances they have to attract the best players around the world to play in their league.
The U.S. has to take their invitation to play in Copa America schedule for June 26-July 15, 2007, in Venezuela.
The U.S. Soccer Federation is considering a standing invitation to play in the Copa America, scheduled for June 26-July 15, 2007, in Venezuela. If so, this will be the first U.S. appearance in the Copa since 1995, when it surprised Argentina and reached the semifinals in Uruguay.
Sacrifices have to be made by US such as disruption by the MLS season for a month and a half starting from CONCACAF Gold Cup set for June 6-24 followed by the Copa America.
Who cares? Sponsors? If they can see through what is happening with the US football they should be insane enough to understand where they will fall a few years from now. Losing to Ghana and a tie with Italy should give them a wake-up call on their pathetic place in the sport.
Copa America and playing with the best is a long-term investment for them which should bear fruit in the coming World Cup. By doing so and if their performance greatly improves then sponsors should be all smiles with football economics skyrocketing. The US having 50 members translating to voting powers in FIFA should be able to reap the rewards of a powerful showing of the US team which has the potential of becoming an important training ground for players.
Do US have the courage and intelligence to make this happen?

[...] I wrote about the US Girls Football Team far from being pathetic as their boys, and true enough despite of their loss against Brazil in the battle for third place they still are way ahead of the men’s football team. It’s sorry to see them bow out without even winning the third prize award but the way they played proves a lot of their skill and potential going forward. [...]
